Stranger Things Is Officially Bigger Than House of Cards and Jessica Jones
It quickly became one of the biggest Netflix shows of all time. It’s hard to really gauge how well a given Netflix show performs. Because every episode is dropped at the same time, and because these releases seem rather sudden without the conventional broadcast promotional campaigns, there's little fanfare surrounding a release. And the conversation, itself, often comes in one big burst.
There has been a lot of conversation about Stranger Things. A lot. But, is that because people in the media enjoy it and are writing about it, or is the mass public actually watching it? That's been hard to say without specific numbers.
Well, Business Insider reports that these numbers are in, and they look very, very good.
Stranger Things is one of the most popular Netflix original series of all time, with 8.2 million people watching it in its first 16 days. The only shows that did better than Stranger Things are Fuller House and the latest season of Orange Is the New Black. Surprisingly, this vintage sci-fi thriller did better than Marvel properties Daredevil and Jessica Jones, as well as critical darlings House of Cards and Narcos.
Given that success, Netflix honchos have admitted that they would be stupid to not bring Stranger Things back for a second season. Luckily, the show's creators, the Duffer brothers, are already planning on doing just that.
